About

A native of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Michael Karamus has been in Charleston since 1993 and established his firm, Michael E. Karamus Architect in 1999. He currently serves clients all around the Lowcountry of South Carolina, including peninsular Charleston, Johns Island, West Ashley, and Mount Pleasant, striving to help home owners make their dreams a reality. Prior to starting his own firm, Karamus worked under Architect Grady Lanier Woods,  SHW Associates, and Architect Richard G. Berry. Karamus studied at the Charles E. Daniel Center in Genoa, Italy and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Design and a Master of Architecture degree, both from Clemson University. He sat for and passed his initial Architectural Record Exam in 1992 and is a Registered Architect in South Carolina, North Carolina, and New Jersey. Karamus is also a member of the American Institute of Architects and a certificate holder on the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. A winner of the New Jersey State Conference of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman design competition, Karamus has traveled and studied architecture abroad in Austria, Belgium, Canada, East Germany, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Italy, and Switzerland. In his free time Karamus enjoys motorsports, golf, basketball, and spending time with his wife Michelle and two daughters, Allison and Jennifer.
